Girls Volleyball won yesterday’s season opener @ Morris Hills 2-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
It appears the team has prepared well for success this coming season, after last season’s disheartening 7-13 record. Despite losing four talented seniors from the Class of 2024 due to graduation, the current team is quickly getting back on track to victory.
The Rams returned to the court stronger than ever, with four returning seniors; co-captain Yolanda Sabillon, co-captain Caitlin Sciubba, Isabella Carreira and Belinda Carcamo.
“This season’s strength is the team chemistry of the returning [players],” Head Coach Sheri Data said. “They have supported each other throughout their tenure in the program. We are excited to watch their growth and success this season.”
Last season, the Rams had a tough time with a 7-13 record. They regained a winning streak after five consecutive losses, however, but then fell to Ramapo in the first round of the NJSIAA Tournament.
This year’s captains, Sabillon, Sciubba and junior Ashley Silvestri, are prepared to lead the team. Despite the loss of former players Olivia Berlin, Samantha Einfeldt, Megan Geuther and Dora Katsanos, the returning and new players are in position to help bring the team further than they’ve been before.
“Our mission for the season is to play for each other and support the team’s goals,” Data added. “The Rams struggled against teams like Mount Olive, Morristown and Morris Knolls; however, they remain hopeful that they will defeat their rivals. They aim to grow together and achieve more this season, ending in triumph.”
The team faces Montville next, on Friday, Sept. 6, at 4:00 p.m.
