RHS sophomore Seannah Parsons broke the RHS record for triple jump and took home a gold medal for her effort, at the NJAC meet held at Morris Hills High School on Tuesday, May 7.
“That was my easy day,” said Parsons after the meet. “I only had the 400 and triple jump so it was easier to put my all into the jump.”
Parsons’ record-breaking jump measured 38 feet and 6.25 inches. This is 38 feet and 5 inches farther than that of Meghan O’Malley, the prior record holder in 2019.
“Watching Seannah break a school record was really impressive,” teammate Christian Velasco stated.
Also inspiring is the fact that Parsons, who had only minor jumping experience and little time to prepare, was able to get to achieve a high level of competition. “I started about three weeks before the NJAC meet,” Parsons said about practicing her triple jump before the meet.
“I was really impressed that Seannah was able to do that, especially because she just started to triple jump,” teammate Juliana Kusnier added.
Parsons is a multitalented athlete who also runs the 400m dash, 100m dash, 200m dash, 4×4 relay, 4×1 relay and last but not least, competes in the long jump. She’s a crucial part of the team, consistently earning points during meets.
Parsons’ coaches said they were impressed by her achievements but not surprised by them because they expected a lot from her. They agreed that Seannah is an outstanding athlete who will continue to do admirable things.
She is a hard worker and determined, according to her coaches and other teammates. “Seannah constantly puts work in order to get better in her events,” teammate Gabby Ball noted.
