Rampage Round-Up: Spring Sports Update

Rams Pitcher Tommy Martin throws a strike against Nutley in the NJSIAA State playoffs.

Baseball Has Bittersweet Ending to Season

The Rams came up short on Thursday, May 25, against North Hunterdon, falling 6-1 to finish the season with a 14-12 record. Season highlights included pulling off massive upset victories against perennial powerhouses Delbarton, Seton Hall and Montville. The Rams played a hardnosed brand of baseball and fought until the last out in each game, losing to many high ranked opponents often by only one run.

The team, which consisted of mostly underclassmen, performed well despite facing lots of adversity throughout the season. After a flaming hot start to the season, the boys cooled off, winning only six out of their last 15 games since April 22 and making an early exit as the number 2 seed in the Morris County Tournament. For any ordinary team, this stretch of play would most certainly lead to a late season collapse, but the Rams played on.

“This is what we’ve all been working really hard for since the beginning of the season,” senior co-captain Brendan Bruun said. “The outcome is not what we all hoped for, but I am proud of our group, and I know they can compete for every championship next year.”

Next year’s 2024 team will see many veteran players returning for their junior and season seasons, including Rocco Albano, Jacob Corsaro, Andrew Dobres, Ethan Gorman, Carter Kielbania, James Kleiven, AJ Terry, Tommy Martin and Connor Stokoe. This year, Terry led the team in hits and runs, while Albano led in home runs and RBIs. Kleiven led the team in strikeouts and had 39.1 innings pitched.

Junior star Lexi Rodell has scored seven goals in each of her last three games, and she was a massive contributor in both the first and second rounds of States against West Windsor-Plainsboro North and Morris Knolls respectively.

Boys Volleyball Scores 19-Game Winning Streak with Quarterfinal Win Over Kearny
