Literature Club Hosts First Book Discussion on “The Woman in the Window”

“Chaotic” was the single word that several Lit Club members chose to describe the novel, The Woman in the Window, at the club’s first book discussion, led by sophomore Shaelyn Brady before winter break.

Written by A.J. Finn, The Woman in the Window chronicles a woman with agoraphobia, confined to her apartment, who witnesses a murder across the street. But between her alcohol addiction and her medications, the police doubt her account, and so do readers as more clues to her past are revealed.

Brady, a member of the Lit Club executive board, chose the “thrilling read” for the first quarterly book talk, which 11 club members attended. She facilitated its discussion with thought-provoking questions concerning the characters and numerous plot twists.

“The book was a phenomenal read,” sophomore club member Ruby Weston said. Many other attendees agreed, noting that it kept readers guessing throughout. “I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Stephen King or psychological thrillers,” Weston added.

“Our first book talk couldn’t have gone any better,” said Brady, happy with her choice and with club members’ participation.

Club members, as an activity worth four credits, can choose to participate in any of the four book talks over the course of the school year. Each of the four executive board members selects a book they love for the club to read and leads the discussion for that novel.

Lit Club members are looking forward to their next read, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, which will include a “read-in” lunch event and another book talk in February, led by senior Lizzy Scherzer.
